Third Crusade had ended and it was time for Sir Robin Hood of Locksley (Russell Crowe) to return to his hometown in Nottingham.
Because it is been too long since he left Nottingham, Robin did not know if the land of his birth is now under the tyranny of a Sheriff.
Sheriff of Nottingham (Matthew McFadden) uses his power to suppress the people. He imposed taxes in the amount large enough so most people live in poverty. No one dared to fight against the sheriff because they have to deal with the Sheriff’s notoriety.
Could not bear to see people suffer, Robin then formed a small army and armed with archery skill began to spread terror Robin for the Sheriff’s soldiers. Every train that contains the tax for the sheriff was robbed by Robin and his troops and treasures they win then they go back to the people section.
You must be familiar with the story above. Yes, despite the repetition, it is still a legend that offers the same story, even when Kevin Costner played this character in ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES in the year 1991 then. In fact, it’s not Ridley Scott made, satisfied.
Robin is no longer a nobleman but a soldier named Robin Longstride who later took over the identity of Robert Loxley and intends to restore the dead knight’s sword was to his family. When the late family met Robin adventure begins. It was nice to see there are new interpretations of old legends, done exactly the same as Christopher Nolan on Batman or Tim Burton in Alice in Wonderland.
Other good thing is, Ridley Scott is also not reckless in making this new interpretation. At least the script is done Brian Helgeland, Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris looks pretty neat. Each character allowed growing into three-dimensional characters so that more acceptable to viewers. Election of the right actors and actresses make this film even more so a satisfying spectacle.
