She was still young, but has won several awards such as SOCAN Composer of the Year and keyboardist of the Year at the National Jazz Awards event (2005).
Beautiful pianist who was also a composer was amazing audiences in various places ranging from Carnegie Hall in New York City, North Sea Jazz Festival in Dutch, International Jazz Festival in Lima, Peru to the Cotton Club in Tokyo, Japan.
Listening to the game and her voice, then we find the influences ranging from Chopin to Keith Jarrett, Joni Mitchell, and Bjork.
No wonder, in addition to performing with her group she is often also asked a number of artists with their tour, call it jazz trumpeter Chris Botti to singer Paula Cole, and platinum recording artist Suzanne Vega.
Laila has released the album from sea to Sky (June 2007) which receives a warm welcome. Toronto Daily Star for example, write “sure fire winner” (score 4 of 4 stars); while the Montreal Gazette called it “exceptional recording” by an “extraordinary talent” with cause for “celebration and recognition” (score of five out of five stars) and the Vancouver Province write “this screams’ Juno.’It even whispers’ Grammy.” Superb. ”
Last September she flight to Il Palagio to join practice with Sting. This is done in preparation for DVD recording titled “If on a Winter’s Night …”. Her own record made at Durham Cathedral on 17 and 18 September 2009.
In addition to performing schedule quite tight, she often was a professor at the Stanford Jazz Workshop at Stanford University.
