Benny Likumahuwa

Benny Likumahuwa a senior jazz musician, born in Kediri, June 18, 1946 was getting to know the music from his mother; he studied music and musical notes autodidact. At first he played the bongo, and then replaces it with the bass as the main instrument. When Benny got interested in jazz music, he changed instruments with Clarinet and saxophone; he also learned to blow the trombone. In 1966, Benny joined the band from Bandung Crescendo. The band together Rollies, Benny had a recording for Polygram in Singapore and Indonesia tour


After 2 years later, in 1968 Benny joined the Rollies and time recording for Polygram in Singapore and Indonesia tour. He also played in various bands at night clubs of Bangkok, and then he formed The Augersindo and play around in the Asian countries. Then he returned to Jakarta, together with his friends, Jack Lesmana Combo, Eternal Soesman, and Chandra Darusman he continues to play jazz. Then in 1980, Benny joined again with Ireng Maulana All Star besides that, he also played freelance with other jazz groups.
He has participated in jazz festivals, such as: the Singapore Jazz Festival in 1986, The Jakarta Jazz Festival in 1988, and The North Sea Jazz Festival in 1990 in the Netherlands, the Asean Jazz Festival in Kuala Lumpur in 1992, and the Malaysian Jazz Festival in 1994. In 1996 to form Big Band Benny Likumahuwa who played in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali and then he recorded for the third time in 1999 at The Lion Studio-S’pore to Sangaji Music Co.
In 1997, Benny Likumahuwa played at the International Dixie Land Festival in Dresden, Germany, the North Sea Jazz Festival, in the Hagen Netherland. In 2002 recording of gospel music, 2 years later he returned to participate in the Bali International Jazz Festival, and the Pattaya Music Festival in Thailand. Later in the year 2005 Benny back again for the 4th time recording at The Lion Studio-S’pore to Sangaji Music Co. with Ireng Maulana All Stars, and until now Benny is still working as a musician in various musical groups in Indonesia and International.
In 1985 with Jack and Indra Lesmana he formed Farabi Music School. Later in the year 2006, with Todung Pandjaitan, Gilang Ramadhan, Donny Suhendra, Krisna Prameswara, and mother Annette Frambach formed the planning team rehearsal Music Lab. Until now he was served as Academic Consultant at rehearsal Music Lab.
On 7 February 2009, Benny with his son, Barry Likumahuwa is also involved in jazz music held a concert called Jazz Concert Continuously. The concert was at once the story of Benny’s music career.
